From March 9th, 2020 to March 9th, 2021 every evening I was drawing one thing that caught my interest during a day. Here are all the drawings of that year.

The creation of this drawing project almost coincided with the beginning of the quarantine due to COVID-19. Officially self-isolation in Russia was announced on March 30th, but I’ve started working at home from March 16th. It’s been a challenge not to focus on the latest news about the pandemiс and to be inspired by the new reality. I was working on the usual schedule, experimenting with different drawing styles in Procreate, cleaning up my apartment and kept in touch with my friends and relatives online.

April, 2020
It was becoming pretty hard to stay inside for such a long time. And on the first weekend of this month, I moved to my friend’s country house. It gives me the opportunity to change an environment, go outside, and take walks in the woods which is very helpful to get a little bit distracted and inspired while the virus is raging. I have never lived in the countryside for such a long time. When the quarantine is over, maybe I will miss this calm place, fresh air, and nature being a stone's throw away from the house.

June, 2020
The month has started with prolonged rainfalls and tense news all over the world. I visited my apartment in the city after staying in the countryside for more than 2 months and in 3 days returned back to spend my long-awaited vacation surrounded by nature and clean air. Eventually, there were many more happenings in the second part of the month. I had a long-awaited haircut, met a few friends and new acquaintances. And unexpectedly at the end of the month, I was asked to move out from the apartment where I have been living for 5 years. It was quite stressful but I believe that it's for the best. It’s time for a new phase in many areas of my life.
Small pleasures: my precious MUJI pens have finally arrived
Working on the super long and informative article
Waking up with the sun shining on my pillow

It was a long and saturated day
New acquaintances

July, 2020
The month has started with a sudden the disease that knocked me right at the beginning of the first weekend after I was swimming in the lake. Eventually, it was pretty great weeks with careful returning to normal. I was meeting with my friends, visiting doctors, taking long walks, and going to the office once in a while. Also, there was a long-awaited trip to Saint Petersburg where I had a really great time on my own, and later my friends joined me there. But it’s still strange to wear a mask every time I’m going down to the subway.

August, 2020
It was a wonderful and extremely saturated month. I’ve never had so many meetings and events before. Almost every day I was hanging out with friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and even the gang who I was friends with 8 years ago and haven’t seen them since then.

Also, this month had a few wonderful "first times" — yachting, slow dancing on an embankment, singing in a karaoke bar, listening to classical music at the Moscow Philharmonic, and visiting new awesome places. And the main first time was launching my first book The Wonders of Daily Drawing.

In general, I wasn’t productive in my free time as usual and I haven’t finished some of my personal tasks, but it was totally worth it.

September, 2020
At the beginning of September, I moved to Saint Petersburg for one month to change my environment and get new impressions. Eventually, it was just a perfect month that gave me new wonderful friends, acquaintances, places, experiences, thoughts, and a lot of drawings! I’m happy that I’d decided to make such a trip, and I will definitely repeat it in a while.

At the beginning of the month, I spent a few last wonderful days in St.Petersburg and returned to Moscow to deal with a bunch of tasks that I need to do in my personal and professional life. During these weeks I was actively searching for an apartment to rent. It wasn’t easy but at the end of the month, I found a good option with the help of Instagram. Also, October is always a season of birthdays for me because 4 close friends and relatives of mine were born in this month.

November, 2020
The biggest part of the month I was repairing my new rented apartment. The apartment had big potential but there were a lot of problems to fix and cleaning to do. Eventually, I took two weeks of vacation from work and was working on making my new home cozy. This experience was challenging but I’m glad that I had it because I learned many interesting things and now I have an awesome place to live in.

At the end of the month, I had two housewarmings and friends coming along helping me with difficult stuff which I couldn’t do by myself. There are still some little things to finish but it already looks and feels awesome. So now I’m enjoying it and getting used to living alone.

December, 2020
I had been worried that this month will be difficult but eventually, it turned out to be not so bad. I organised a few more housewarming parties with my friends and finished all the work I supposed to finish by the end of the year. Every December, our team in Tilda works on this big project that summarizes all the good stuff that the service made during a year. It's always been quite a stressful period but, this year, we have become bigger and more experienced, and eventually, we managed to do all the work on time. A couple of days before the New Year I got sick and spent New Year’s Eve alone at home.

About me and my daily drawing practice

I’m Julia, an illustrator and web designer. Since February 2017, daily I was drawing everything that happened to me or inspired me during the day. You can see the beginning of this project in “365 days of daily drawing” on my website. Also, in 2020 I finished my book “The Wonders of Daily Drawing” about this which is available for order on Amazon.
After keeping my Drawing Journal in sketchbooks for a few years, on 9 March 2020, I started making digital drawings in Procreate. On the whole, my big daily drawing project lasted for five years. Now I draw one picture per week. Be well, inspired, and creative! Every day can bring something beautiful if you look closely and really want to see it.
I'm open for new projects and collaborations. Shall we make something fun together?
